Socceroos too good for Jamaica
Australia proved too good for Jamaica in Reading last Sunday as they scored a narrow victory over their Carribian opponents.
In a game dominated by Australia, it was the offical home side that opened the scoring on 19 minutes. Socceroos Marco Bresciano volleyed from about 16 yards out after a slight goal mouth scramble. The ball came off the far post and in, leaving the Jamaican keeper, Donovan Rickets, helpless.
However Australia became complacent and jamaica hit back almost immediatly when Kevin Lisbie tapped in past Schwarzer after Ricardo Fuller set up the attack. After 21 mintues it was now 1-1. And that's how it remained until the break.
Socceroos coach Frank Farina took Schwarzer out and substituted Zeljko Kalac in to goal. The 6'7" keeper however didn't have much work as Australia dominated proceedings.
Harry Kewell, who had been threatening a goal all game, managed to put Australia into the lead on 58 minutes. Skipper paul Okon threaded a pin point ball through the centre of the midfield, allowing kewell to run from halfway and straight at goal. With only Rickets to beat Kewell was never going to make a mistake.
The remainder of the match saw Australia not even allow Jamaica a look at goal yet the amount of chances missed by Australia may have been a concern. Not so says Farina. "I very happy with the number of chances we are creating in our matches. I would be worried if we weren’t creating." Farina said (www.theworldgame.com.au)
