Dave's World Cup

Dave's World Cup

Date for Womens World Cup draw decided.

The draw date and location for the FIFA Womens World Cup has been decided. It will take place in Wuhan on May 24 at 7 pm local time. This will be part of a series of events to occur in Wuhan over the 23rd and 24th of May.

On the 23rd of May in Wuhan the FIFA Womens World Ranking will be launched. Heavy favourites for the top positions are the USA and China with Australia expected to figure better than their male counterparts. On the same night Adidas will unveil the official matchball for the Womens World Cup.

The 24th will see a FIFA All-Star XI take on China before the draw takes place.

Other decisions to come from Zurich were the inclusion of awards from the world cup, all of which will be the same used in the FIFA World Cup held in Korea/Japan. This includes such awards as the most entertaining team and best goalkeeper.

Thailand also announced their wishes to host the second U/19 Womens World Championship in 2004. The first tornament was held in Canada and although the Australian squad didn't perform as well as they would have desired, Brisbane's own Krys Szokolai was appointed a semi final match as a referee. Thailand's proposal included an increase of the number of players in a teams squad from 18 to 20 which was unanimously passed. There will be no change in the allocation of places for the 2004 event.
