Dave's World Cup

Warner expresses confidence against Asia

CONCACAF president, Jack Warner, expressed extreme pleasure after it was announced the North and Central American region would receive an extra half place at the world cup. The half place means they will have their fourth best side play off with an Asian team, a place Warner vowed to become a full place for CONCACAF.

Warner was a little disappointed that it didn't become an automatic place but is content with the fact the fourth team now has a chance it otherwise wouldn't have had.

"Plainly there was a lot of pressure from other Confederations too, so for now, we will have to be content with that chance for our fourth team to qualify ..." Warner said.

CONCACAF officials have also made comparisons to their chances had the changes been made for the 2002 world cup. "We don’t think there is any doubt that Honduras would have been in Japan and Korea alongside Costa Rica, Mexico and the USA," Warner said.

As has been documented at Dave's World Cup OFC was the other confederation to gain half a place with UEFA and CONMEBOL being the confederations to lose the extra chances.
