Thailand retain Tiger Cup in shootout. Vietnam overcome Malaysia

Thailand have come away from the Tiger Cup with victory after they were able to outlast Indonesia in a penalty shoot-out.

Indonesia went two goals behind despite dominating early play. Chukiat Noosalung latched onto a header in the 26th minute however to give Thailand the lead. Worawoot Srimaka help extend the lead 33rd minute when he headed a cross down to Therdsak Chaiman who belted the ball home from 15 yards out.

Indonesia came back in the second half when Jaris Riyadi was able to shake off Chukiat and put the ball in the net to pull one back just after half time. The match boiled over and once again Chukiat was in the middle of the action when he was sent off for elbowing Gendut Christiawan. Christiawan's shirt pulling had gone unnoticed by the referee and Chukiat retaliation in the 57th minute saw him receive his marching orders.

Christiawan scored in the 79th minute to level the score after receiving a beautiful ball from Imran Nahumaray.

From here the match stayed level throughout extra time and the teams went to penalties. The penalties coming from Thai captain Kiatisuk Senamuang and Indonesian Sugiyantoro and Firmansyah. Senamuang completly missed with their first shot while the Indonesian defenders hit the crossbar and went wide to give Thailand the advantage.

In the third place playoff Vietnam overcame Malaysia 2-1 to claim a podium finish.

Vietnam took the lead in first half injury time when Tran Truong Giang slotted home. Indraputra Mahayuddin leveled the scores for Malaysia on 55 minutes. However Vietnam were able to score another and give them the victory. Minh Phuong scoring not long after Indraputra to restore the lead and give Vietnam what eventually turned out to be the match winning goal.
